Welcome to CBVRCE’s Inaugural STEAM Week!

Steam Week

We are thrilled to announce STEAM Week, a brand-new event for students in Grades 3-5 across our region! Teachers and hundreds of students from all corners of our regional centre are coming together to explore the wonders of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. This week promises to ignite curiosity, creativity, and a passion for learning in every participant!

What is STEAM?

STEAM is more than just a collection of subjects; it’s a movement aimed at integrating these critical areas into a cohesive learning model. By blending the analytical with the creative, STEAM encourages students to think holistically and develop problem-solving skills that prepare them for future challenges.

  • Science: Exploring the natural world through exciting experiments.
  • Technology: Learning how the digital world works, from coding to circuits.
  • Engineering: Building, designing, and creating real-world solutions.
  • Arts: Embracing creativity through design and artistic expression.
  • Mathematics: Understanding patterns, probability, and logic that make the world tick.

Ready to Explore?

Throughout STEAM Week, students will dive into a range of interactive lessons and activities designed to be fun, hands-on, and thought-provoking. From building projects to art creations, coding exercises, and fascinating science experiments, there’s something for everyone! Our goal is not only to educate but also to inspire conversations that extend beyond the classroom and into your homes.

Teachers and students will have access to pre-made lessons and materials in each of the five STEAM areas, including:

  • Exciting Science Experiments to get students thinking about the world around them.
  • Engineering Challenges where you can build and design.
  • Creative Coding and Circuit Building to bring tech concepts to life.
  • Art Projects that let imaginations soar.
  • Mathematics in Action, exploring concepts like probability in engaging ways.

Follow the Action!

We’ll be sharing some of the exciting moments from STEAM Week on our social media channels, including X (formerly Twitter). Be sure to follow along with the hashtag #CBVRCESteamWeek to catch highlights, pictures, and videos showcasing the amazing work of our students and teachers.

Bussing Information for Families

Each year, our Transportation Department staff carefully review and plan bus routes for the coming school year. Families of children who travel by bus are encouraged to visit https://cbvrce.ca/home/transportation for information about student transportation and review the details below.
Safety Information
  • Children should arrive at bus stops five minutes before their bus is scheduled to arrive.
  • Families are encouraged to talk to their children about how they can stay safe while waiting for their bus.
  • As a reminder, children in Pre-Primary to Grade 2 must have a parent or guardian present at the bus stop location during drop off.

Bus Planner Web

The BusPlanner Web platform allows families to access their child’s bus information, including route number, pickup/drop-off times and locations. Families who sign up will also receive email notification regarding any bussing changes, including delays or cancellations.

Bus Planner Delays App

The Transportation Department shares information about bus delays or cancellations through the Bus Planner Delays app. This will ensure families only receive notifications for their selected bus route(s).  The Bus Planner Delays App is free to download on your smartphone. Once installed, you can select which route(s) you would like to receive notifications for. To get started, CLICK HERE to watch an instructional video, or follow the steps below:

  • Search for “Bus Planner Delays” in the App Store and download it for free.
  • Open the app, select “Cape Breton-Victoria Regional Centre for Education” from the menu, and click “Next.”
  • Follow the prompts to select “My Child’s Bus,” choose your child’s school, and then their specific bus route. (If you do not know your child(ren)’s route, login to the Bus Planner Parent Portal at https://www.cbvbussing.ca/)
  • Close the app and restart it to ensure all settings are applied correctly.

Bussing to Multiple Addresses

  • Families who require busing to and from more than one address, with a set schedule, are required to complete an Alternate Address Bussing form.
  • Please complete this form as soon as possible and someone from the transportation office will be in touch to discuss the details.

Courtesy Bussing

  • Courtesy bussing may be available for students who live within the walking distance boundaries of the school and do not qualify for bussing under the Nova Scotia School Transportation Policy, provided there are available seats on school buses.
  • Families seeking courtesy bussing are encouraged to apply HERE.  Please note, staff will start making decisions on Courtesy bussing in October 2024.

If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our Transportation Department by emailing [email protected] or phoning 902-562-4595.
