Breakfast Program Volunteers Required

We are in need of parent volunteers for our Breakfast Program. At this time, we have our custodian and our secretary along with a teacher (on Day 1) and our health nurse when she is available. With the cold weather approaching, our custodian will be needed outside and we will be left without adequate volunteers. This is a valuable and well-used program a program so if you are interested in helping out, please let the office know.

We also have a lunch, bus, grounds position available if anyone is interested. Applications are available in the office

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you.

Information regarding alcohol and cannabis legalization

Please review the documents below from the Government of Nova Scotia regarding information about alcohol and more specfically, the new cannabis laws which will come into effect this month. These documents can help answer some of the common questions around cannabis and can be used to promote a healthy dialogue or discussion between children and parents/guardians.

Public Health Program and Services

Annually, students across Nova Scotia are offered services delivered by Public Health including
the Grade 7 School Immunization Program, Pre-school Screening, Enhanced Vision Screening
Program and the Fluoride Mouthrinse Program. Public Health works with the education system
to distribute information about these programs and to obtain consent for student participation.

Occasionally, Public Health practitioners may need to contact parents/guardians of students
where consent information is incomplete or unclear, or when a consent form has not been
returned. Public Health will not contact you if you have signed a consent form indicating you do
not wish to have your child participate in one of these programs. The school board will share
limited information such as names of parents/guardians and students, with Public Health for the
purposes of operating these public health services for students.

Please contact your local public health office if you have any questions about these public health
programs. Please contact your principal or Regional Centre for Education information access and privacy
manager, if you have any questions about how your information is shared.

Allergy Awareness

Dear Parent/Guardian:

This notice is to remind you that students/staff at Baddeck Academy have severe food allergies to peanuts/nuts and shellfish.  It is important that there is strict avoidance to this food in order to prevent a life-threatening allergic reaction. We are asking your help to provide the students and staff with a safe school environment. Any exposure to peanuts/nuts or shellfish may cause a life-threatening allergic reaction that requires emergency medical treatment. To reduce the chance of this occurring, we are asking that you do not send any peanut/nut containing products (i.e. Nutella) or shellfish to school with your child.  If your child has eaten peanuts/nuts before coming to school, please be sure your child’s hands and face have been thoroughly washed before entering the school.

We appreciate your support of these procedures.
